Boris Akoha

Urban Planner Architect DEIAU

National Order of Architects and Urban Planners of Benin
#130 / Oath taken on 12/08/09

Born on July 22, 1984 in Benin, Boris is the architect who has been leading the architectural firm BA.rchitects for years now.

Early in his academic years, he was drawn to careers often associated with prestige in Africa, dreaming of becoming a banker or a pilot. However, his passion for graphic illustration and his keen eye for detail led him to choose architecture as his vocation. A graduate of the African School of Architecture and Urban Planning in Lomé and a 2019 AMP graduate from the prestigious MDE Business School in Abidjan, he now has a solid years of experience in architecture and defines himself as an accessible leader who stays connected with his teams.

Before founding his own firm, he designed and participated in major projects and held several positions in different firms in Cotonou, Dakar, and Abidjan. His career, which naturally began as an assistant architect, led him with experience to positions as Project Manager and then Head of the Architecture Department.

In 2012, three years after taking his oath, driven by the desire to address local architectural challenges and eager to positively contribute to the spread and recognition of African culture, he opened his firm in Abidjan with a clear vision: to make it one of the most renowned African architectural firms in the world. His mission is simple: to design sustainable spaces and unique experiences, modeled around client needs, while promoting local materials and expertise.

His achievements testify to his expertise and ability to lead complex and varied projects. In Abidjan, these include the lagoon stations, the Boulay Beach Resort (BBr), the extension of the Banking Commission of the WAMU's headquarters, the Diamond Center shopping mall, the Life TV headquarters, as well as bank branches for Versus Bank, GT Bank, and Banque Populaire de Côte d'Ivoire. In Cotonou, he serves as the local architect for various projects such as the Ministerial City, the 20,000 Housing program, the Sofitel Hotel, Club Med, and the Avlekete Club House with its 18-hole golf course. His expertise also extends to other African cities such as Dakar, Conakry, Yaoundé, Brazzaville, and Kinshasa with institutional, commercial, and private projects.

His architectural philosophy is marked by a constant pursuit of local culture integration, combined with the use of modern, cutting-edge technological solutions. He takes into account the unique challenges of African cities while introducing concepts of sustainability and modernity.
